Debt Free, Healthy Living

2020 Goals using Zig Ziglar’s Wheel of Life Method

Have you set your resolutions yet? Some of my past ones that I could remember are to not cuss (wtf was I thinking), to vlog, and giving up Diet Coke. Like many people, I failed at keeping these New Years resolutions.

This year I am setting goals instead of resolutions. To help me do this I am using Zig Ziglar’s Wheel of Life.

The basis of the Wheel of Life is to achieve success in all aspects of your life. For example, if you are successful in your career life by having a successful job but are failing in your family life because all you do is work and you never see your family, then your life will be unbalanced.

Here are my goals for 2020 and how I plan to accomplish them:

Mental/ Intellectual Goal – to read one nonfiction and one fiction book a month

Even though nonfiction books are not the easiest to read for me, I’ve gained some great knowledge by the ones I’ve read. Fiction ones are easy because I like to read the fluff books – you know, the books that aren’t dark and twisty, a little romantic but not a full on porno? Yea I like those. My last fiction book that I read was Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and nonfiction was Getting Things Done by David Allen.

In January the nonfiction book that I’m going to read is Business Boutique by Christie Wright and the fiction book is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

Career Goal – to start my own photography business

I’ve dabbled in photography for years but am finally ready to do it for profit. A side hustle. I took our Christmas card photos, as well as some friends’, and their feedback pushed me to finally start a business.

My valentine backdrop comes in in a few days and if my kids’ shots turn out I am going to schedule three days of paid shoots.

Spiritual Goal – to get back in to a church

When we lived in Kingwood we were very active in the Methodist church. We are all catholic, except Harper, but I always felt the Methodist church did an exceptional job in children’s activities. We are currently selling our house with plans to move back to Kingwood, so until we do that we will grow our spiritual goals by reading our bibles and trying to live in His faith.

Physical Goal- to do something active every week day, NOT Saturday and Sunday

I am a pretty athletic person and am naturally thin, but I haven’t worked out consistently in a long time. I want to gain muscle and get stronger, and to do that I need to be more consistent with my workouts. I’ve been using Sweat, an app by Kayla Itsines and I really like it.

I can do it at home with little equipment and it only takes 28 minutes. I also like to run but that is a bit more challenging as our community gym isn’t finished so the winter weather has made outdoor runs tricky. I use the app Aaptiv for their personal trainers to help me run.

Family Goal- to be more present when we are all together

One of the many benefits of homeschooling is that my kids and I are together all the time. Bryan works from home quite a bit so we all spend a lot of time together. However this year I am going to try and be more present when we are all together, putting my to do list and social media on the back burner. Playing characters with my kids. Reading them more stories. Watching and experiencing movies together, not browsing on my phone while we watch a movie together. We have started sitting all together at the table for dinner almost every night and we play a game, which has been a lot of fun.

Financial Goal – to begin my path to being a millionaire by the time I am 40 (5.5 years)

We are finally debt free (except for our house) yah! We started our debt payoff journey about three years ago. We follow Dave Ramsey’s plan, and his steps are to pay off your debt and build and an emergency fund so that you never have to go in to debt again. Step #4 is saving 15% for retirement, Step #5 is saving for your kids college, and Step #6 is paying off your house early. Since we are finally debt free, this year starts us cranking up our investments and saving to build our dream home. Stay tuned for a post where I go over where we invest our money!

I hope everyone has a prosperous 2020! Set your goals, make them attainable and you will do great things!
